NORWICH UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL DIAGNOSTICS ASSESSMENT CENTRE

Norwich University Hospital has long been a cornerstone of healthcare in the region, providing essential medical services to the community. The Diagnosis Assessment Centre was developed as part of an expansion to improve diagnostic capabilities and patient care. Designed to house advanced medical imaging and diagnostic equipment, the centre plays a crucial role in early detection and treatment planning for various medical conditions.

We were commissioned to install a comprehensive security system at the Norwich University Hospital Diagnosis Assessment Centre. The centre, a newly constructed facility, required state-of-the-art security solutions to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and sensitive medical equipment. Given its role within the broader hospital complex, the security infrastructure needed to provide both standalone functionality and seamless integration with the hospital’s main security system

Challenges

The installation process presented several challenges due to the nature of the site and its operational requirements:

  • Coordination with Multiple Trades: The security installation took place during the construction phase, requiring collaboration with various contractors and trades to ensure smooth integration without disrupting progress.
  • Special Considerations for Medical Equipment: The presence of MRI machines and other sensitive diagnostic equipment meant that security devices had to be installed outside certain rooms to prevent interference with medical operations.
  • Interfacing with Door Automation: The need for access control required seamless interfacing with the building’s automated doors, ensuring that security measures did not compromise accessibility.
  • Evolving Project Scope: Initially planned as a separate entity from the main hospital, the project’s scope changed during development, necessitating integration with the hospital’s primary security infrastructure.

Solutions

To overcome these challenges, we implemented several strategic solutions:

  • Selection of Appropriate Security Systems: The team carefully chose security products that not only met the site’s specific requirements but also allowed for reintegration into the main hospital security network as the project scope evolved.
  • Induction Loop Installation: The project included the installation of an induction loop, a solution that was new to the team. While it was an out-of-the-box product, its implementation ensured compliance with accessibility regulations and enhanced the facility’s usability for individuals with hearing impairments.
  • Comprehensive Security Installations: The team successfully installed a full suite of security systems, including:
Access Control: Ensuring restricted areas were only accessible to authorised personnel.
CCTV: Providing surveillance coverage to enhance safety and security monitoring.
Intruder Alarms: Strengthening security measures against unauthorised entry.
Induction Loop System: Enhancing accessibility and communication within the centre.

Outcome

Through meticulous planning and adaptability, we delivered a fully integrated security system that met the evolving needs of the Norwich University Hospital Diagnosis Assessment Centre. The project not only provided a secure environment for patients and staff but also demonstrated the company’s capability to navigate complex installations within dynamic construction environments.
This successful implementation highlights our expertise in delivering cutting-edge security solutions tailored to the unique requirements of healthcare facilities.
